In general, Xiaomi’s smartphones are available in two different series with the Mi series being the company’s higher-end offerings while the Redmi series is meant for the budget market. Starting this year though, Redmi will become its own brand according to a recent post by its CEO, Lei Jun on its Weibo page.
Not only that, the Xiaomi’s chief has also included a teaser image that provided some information on Redmi’s next big launch event as shown below:
One of the major details from the teaser above is that the Redmi launch event will take place on 10 January which is just a few days away. More importantly, the teaser also seems to hint that the new Redmi device will feature a 48MP camera since the shadow of the Redmi logo is being depicted as “4800” which is how camera resolution usually written in specs sheet at China.
It is already a publicly known fact that Xiaomi is working to release a device with 48MP camera since the camera itself has been teased by the company’s own co-founder and President, Lin Bin. Nevertheless, it is still an interesting choice to bring the feature into a Redmi device as Xiaomi is repositioning the brand as a stand-alone entity.
