While ZTE’s Axon M may gotten some of the world’s attention with its foldable nature earlier this year, the Chinese brand is clearly ready to take it to the next step. On that note, the company could be working on a new foldable smartphone, but one with a flexible display.
To be precise, ZTE had filed a patent application to the Chinese CNIPA for the aforementioned device. Officially bringing the brand into an unlikely war against Samsung and, to a lesser extent, Huawei.
Judging from the patent illustrations, it appears the device in question is of a foldable nature. Featuring a typical front display and back panel with a fingerprint scanner and dual-camera setup. The flexible display is revealed when the device is unfolded, showcasing a component that would more or less measure in between 7-inches and 8-inches.
For the record, the patent application was submitted back in February this year, but was only published a little more than a week ago. At the time of writing, ZTE has made no official announcement about such a device. However, given ZTE’s recent run in with the US government, it’s hard to say if the device will even see consumer production by 2019. Even with the current Trump administration having thrown the company a lifeline in the US.
