Besides creating the powerhouse Z5 Pro GT, Lenovo also announced another smartphone model, the Z5s. Unlike the brand’s top-tier device, however, the Lenovo Z5s is a device designed for the mid-range market.
By comparison, the Lenovo Z5s bears certain similarities to the Z5 Pro which we reported on a couple of months ago. As a start, it’s the second smartphone under the brand to be powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 710 SoC. It also comes in three memory and storage combinations; 4GB with 64GB storage, 6GB with 64GB storage, and 6GB with 128GB storage.
But where the Z5 Pro employed a sliding display to hide its front-facing cameras, the Z5s’ display is a static 6.3-inch LTPS LCD panel with Full HD+ resolution and a 19.5: 9 aspect ratio. Surprisingly, the display only employs a single teardrop notch, housing a 16MP sensor for its front-facing camera.
Speaking of cameras, you’ll be interested to know that the Z5s is equipped with a triple-camera setup on its back. Specifically, it includes a 16MP wide-angle lens, an 8MP sensor with 2x optical zoom, and 5MP depth sensor. Further, the camera system also comes with PDAF feature, and capable of 4K video recording. Powering the Z5s is a 3300mAh, which is charged via the phone’s USB Type-C port.
The Lenovo Z5s is expected to go on sale from 24 January 2019 onwards. The 4GB with 64GB storage model is set to retail at 1398 yuan (~RM851), while no official pricing has been released for the other two variants.
On a side note, Lenovo is also releasing a limited edition model of the phone. The phone will come in a special orange and pink design, along with the autograph of Chinese actor Zhu Yilong laser etched into the back of it. That model will cost 1998 yuan (~RM1216), and will also be available from 24 January 2019 onwards.
At the time of writing, Lenovo Malaysia did not mention if and when it will be bringing the Z5s into the country. However, it seems very unlikely at this stage, considering that the brand stated that it wouldn’t be bringing in any more new smartphone models earlier this year.
