AEON Is Developing Mobile-Based Self-Checkout System; Malaysia To Be The First Market To Test It

AEON Group is currently working on a self-checkout system that would allow users to complete their purchases via mobile phone, according to its executive during a media interview earlier today. Not only that, Malaysia will be become the first market to test the system which will revolve around the company’s AEON Wallet app that has just been launched in October.

According to R. Jayabalan, the Business Head Cards Payment of Digital Marketing & Insurance for AEON Credit Service Malaysia, customers will be able to utilize the system by first scanning the QR code of the store in order to allow the app to identify that particular AEON store. After that, they can then proceed to scan the ID code of the products that they want to purchase.

Once they are ready to checkout, customers can then pay for all those items directly from the AEON Wallet app without the need to even visit the cashier. In other words, they can just walk out of the store once the payment has been completed through the app.

Jayabalan further stated that the new system is one of the methods that the company is looking at in order to provide more services and enhance the shopping experiences of AEON members.  However, the company is not yet ready to announce the launch timeline for its new mobile-based self-checkout system for the time being.

Nevertheless, we are eager to see it in action once AEON is ready to deploy the system in its stores in Malaysia.
