Officially announced at Snapdragon Tech Summit in Hawaii last week, Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 SoC and Snapdragon X50 5G modem are being touted as not only the company’s latest flagship product but will also be spearheading its 5G effort. A number of companies have pledged their commitments to the platform including Xiaomi.
During the China Mobile Global Partner Conference which took place just a few days after Snapdragon Tech Summit, Xiaomi has brought forward the 5G version of Mi Mix 3. First announced to the world around two months ago, the phone is known for its magnetic-based sliding body which allows the company to deliver a notch-less full-screen experience.
However, the Mi Mix 3 5G is running on the new Snapdragon 855 SoC instead of the existing Snapdragon 845 as per the 4G model. Of course, the chip is also accompanied by the Snapdragon X50 modem in order to deliver the phone its 5G connectivity.
According to Xiaomi, the Mi Mix 5G will be launched in Europe within the first quarter of 2019 just as the company begins its 5G pre-commercial field test with China Mobile. It will then unveil more 5G phone in the third quarter of 2019 to support China Mobile 5G’s network.
