Over the years, various smartphone manufacturers have patented their own take on foldable phone form factor. However, it was only recently that the discussion regarding began to intensify especially after Samsung showed off its foldable phone with Infinity Flex display few weeks ago. As it turns out, OPPO is getting ready to show off their own foldable phone too.
As reported by Dutch site Tweakers, a product manager of OPPO stated that the unveiling will take place at Mobile World Congress 2019 that is happening on the end of February. Not only that, the company is planning to release a 5G phone within the first half of 2019 and a phone with display hole to house its front camera in 2020.
If this information is true, then OPPO would be joining the likes of Samsung, LG, and Huawei who have been seen as the best candidates to bring the foldable form factor to the masses in 2019. OPPO itself has previously filed several patents related to foldable phone before, so it is not that the company suddenly jumped into the foldable hype train.
Nevertheless, we still like to see the actual products before getting too excited about it. After all, these upcoming foldable devices need to practical and not to be too expensive.
