NVIDIA GeForce RTX series-powered notebooks are expected to launch early next year. But as these things usually go, benchmark numbers of a notebook with a GeForce RTX 2080 Max-Q discrete GPU have already appeared online. Specifically, the Final Fantasy XV benchmarks page.
The benchmark score of the yet to be announced discrete GPU was spotted within the 2560 x 1440, Standard Quality sub-section of the benchmark page. Listed under the full moniker “NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2080 with Max-Q Design”.
It doesn’t look like this is a typo, but the takeaway from the performance chart is the GPU’s overall performance at this resolution. By comparison, the card seems to perform only slightly better than the GeForce GTX 1070 Max-Q, and approximately 20% worse than its GeForce GTX 1080 Max-Q counterpart.
We won’t blame you for thinking that these performance numbers don’t look enticing, but remember; it’s very likely these are just initial performance numbers, and the RTX 2080 Max-Q GPU could’ve been running on an unoptimised GeForce driver.
At the time of writing, NVIDIA has yet to release a comment regarding the matter, and it’s very unlikely that they’ll do so given their “We do not comment on unfinished or unreleased products” policy.
