Nintendo has announced that it will cease support for Netflix on its Wii console after 31 January next year. The Japanese console maker recently sent out emails to its customer base, warning them that the service will cease operating after the aforementioned date.
As pointed out by Engadget, the decision to halt support for Netflix on the console falls in line with the video game maker’s main action: to bring the Wii Shop Channel to a close. The decision, however, will not affect Nintendo Wii U owners.
Given the age of the Wii, Nintendo’s decision to stop supporting the console isn’t any different from other Sony ceasing support or production for its past consoles. In this case, the Wii itself is already 12 years old, and Nintendo had already started pushing the console into the annals of video game history as early as 2013.
