TNG Digital which is responsible for Touch ‘n Go eWallet’s effort has announced that the QR-based cashless payment system can now be used in almost 4,000 taxis in Malaysia. Delivered through a collaboration with EzCab and Public Cab, the company aims to increase the adoption rate to 10,000 taxis within 2018.
Ultimately, this partnership is looking to enable TNG eWallet support on 67,000 taxis throughout the country by the end of 2019. Based on the information provided by TNG Digital, most of the work is done on the users’ side of things as taxi drivers don’t actually have to install any additional payment terminals to their vehicles.
Specifically, what customers need to do in order to pay for their taxi ride using TNG eWallet is just scan the QR code that is shown inside the taxi with the app and enter the payment amount that has been agreed with the taxi driver. After that, key in the 6-digit PIN security code that they have set for their app to confirm the payment which will take place in real time.
In conjunction with the launch, taxi drivers that have agreed to participate in the TNG eWallet’s cashless referral program will be distributing TnG 100 TNG eWallet reload credits worth RM 8 to their passengers.
