As promised, HTC today has officially launched its Vive family of virtual reality headsets in Malaysia. Available in two different models, they will be made available through online stores and IT retailers throughout the country starting from 6 November onwards.
One of them is the original Vive VR System which can be obtained for RM 2999. On another hand, the Vive Pro Starter Kit that comes with the newer Vive Pro headset which was announced at CES 2018 is priced at RM 6099.
The Vive Pro on another hand comes with 3.5-inch AMOLED display panels with the same refresh rate and field of view as per original Vive but with a higher combined resolution of 2880 x 1600 and pixel density of 615ppi. It also apparently has a more balanced ergonomics as well as integrated Hi-Res Audio headset that is accompanied by a built-in digital amplifier and dual ANC microphones alongside the support for 3D spatial sound.
The newer headset also supports the SteamVR Tracking 2.0 base stations which allow for bigger tracking area of up to 10m x 10m. That being said, the base stations that are included in both Vive VR System and Vive Pro Starter Kit are still v1.0 trackers alongside the original Vive.
HTC will also be releasing related accessories for both HTC Vive headsets in Malaysia in due time such as the Vive Deluxe Audio Strap, Vive Tracker, Vive Wireless Adapter, and SteamVR Base Station 2.0. Only the Deluxe Audio Strap will be available at launch though which can be obtained for RM 599.
