The Information reports that Facebook has plans to buy a ‘major’ cybersecurity company. It has also already made offers to several companies, though no names or numbers were revealed.
It’s not certain when the deal will be made official. Facebook itself has also declined to comment, according to the report.
While it may be far fetched, it’s possible that the acquisition plan may have something to do with Facebook’s recent security breach episode. Actually acquiring a cybersecurity company may mean that Zuckerberg is intent on making his social media platform a safer place for all your data.
That, or Facebook is looking to placate victims of the hack, as well as assuage other users on the platform of their worries. It would show that the company is at least serious about preventing a repeat, even if the security tech won’t be implemented immediately.
