Capcom has announced that it will be adapting Mega Man into a live-action Hollywood film. The movie will be written and directed by Henry Joost and Ariel Schulman, and will be distributed by 20th Century Fox.
The company says that it “aims to appeal to a diverse audience, including not only game players but action movie fans as well.” Tentatively, the title of the film will simply be MEGA MAN. Incidentally, the announcement was made on the same day as Mega Man 11‘s release in Japan, which is today. The game’s Mega Buster will also be making an appearance in the Deluxe Edition of the upcoming Devil May Cry 5.

While video game adaptations should usually be a celebration-worthy occasion, the track record of such endeavours have been discouraging, to say the least. It remains to be seen if this adaptation will fall victim to the unfortunately well-established stereotype. Since there’s little to no details save what we already mentioned, we have no choice but to adopt a “wait and see” stance for the moment.
