Lenovo today held an official launch for its ThinkPad P1 and P72 notebooks. Unlike Lenovo’s game-centric Legion and consumer-friendly Ideapad series, the ThinkPad series are workstation notebooks. Catered to the professional and consumer workforce who are looking for a desktop replacement.
Starting with the ThinkPad P1, this notebook is the thinnest of the two models that launched today. The hardware for the notebook varies on the choice of the user; it starts with an 8th generation Intel Core i5 8400H, but it can be upgraded to an Intel Xeon E-2176M workstation CPU.
It can also house up to 64GB DDR4 RAM. Along with dual 2TB of NVMe M.2 SSDs, giving it a total of 4TB of NVMe SSD storage. Bear in mind, this doesn’t even account for the on-board HDD, which starts at 256GB and tops out at 4TB as well.
In terms of graphics and output, the P1 comes equipped with an NVIDIA Quadro P2000, and a 15.6-inch Full HD. Lenovo did mention that there is a P1 variant that actually comes with a 4K display, but that option isn’t currently available at the moment.
The P1 comes loaded with a variety of ports, including two USB Type-C Thunderbolt 3 ports, two USB 3.1 Type-A ports, a HDMI 2.0 port, one RJ45 LAN port, a smart card reader, and a microphone and headphone jack combo. Lastly, it has a starting weight of 1.73kg.
Moving on, the ThinkPad P72 is brand’s more powerful workstation-class notebook. Off the bat, the notebooks can be outfitted with up ton 8th generation Intel Xeon E-2186M CPU, up to 128GB DDR4 RAM. A choice between a 17.3-inch Full HD or 4K display, and up to an NVIDIA Quadro P5200 workstation discrete GPU.
It can also pack up to 6TB of storage, via a combination of dual 2TB NVMe M.2 SSDs, and a 2TB HDD. On that note, the P72 is also Intel Optane Memory, and comes with up to 16GB of Optane Memory. In terms of weight, the notebook starts off at 3.4kg.
Both the Lenovo ThinkPad P1 and P72 are already available via authorised Lenovo resellers and retail store. Pricing for the two notebooks start from RM8719 for the P1, and RM8920 for the P72. Additionally, you can also order and customise the notebooks online via the brand’s official product pages.
