Qualcomm is heading to the courts again with Apple. This time however, the company is accusing Cupertino of stealing chip secrets and giving it to Intel. The secrets in question pertains to 4G radio information; an area that Intel has been struggling to perfect.
The filing was made in San Diego. In it, it specifies that Apple is stealing “”vast swaths” of confidential information and trade secrets for the purpose of improving the performance of chips provided by rival Intel” . In addition, Qualcomm is also accusing Apple’s engineers of sharing source codes and other information with Intel engineers to help improve Intel’s own 4G chips.
While no hard evidence have been shared by Qualcomm, sources in the know say that source code development history within Apple supports the claim, and that codes used in Intel-based phones includes parts of Qualcomm code base.
This isn’t the first time that Apple and Qualcomm have bumped heads with each other. The allegation comes as Apple’s latest batch of smartphones are not using Qualcommm radio chips at all as the company chose to use Intel chips instead. Qualcomm still has a court case pending against Apple, which is set to take place on April 2019.
