To many consumers, Xiaomi is all about value for money but it seems like the company might be pushing that factor further with its newly launched spin-off brand Poco. Earlier today, the brand launched its first product, the Poco F1 which features flagship specs, design, and even material but at an unbelievable starting price.
In many ways, its “master of speed” tagline is being backed by the components that the brand has implemented on the F1. Inside, you get the Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 processor, with up to 8GB of RAM and 256GB of internal storage alongside a 6.18-inch Full HD+ notched display.
At the back, twin camera sensors takes care of photography. The sensors are a 12MP and a 5MP sensor for the back, while selfies are taken care with the front 20MP sensor. For security, you will get both a fingerprint scanner at the back and face-unlock using the front camera as well the accompanying IR sensor. The F1 also features 4000mAh battery with Quick Charge 3.0 support, USB Type-C port and a 3.5mm audio jack.
Design-wise, it did not change from the unboxing video we saw last week. Poco chose to use polycarbonate as the main construction material for the phone, which promises a body that is “seamless, sturdy and comfortable to hold on to,”. Of course plastic is cheaper than glass to manufacture, so it plays into the lower price point.
Poco will also be releasing a special version of the phone which is called the Armoured Edition. Built using a DuPont Kevlar aramid fiber, the brand stated that the material is 5 times more expensive than glass which made the Armoured Edition as one of the most premium smartphone within Xiaomi’s line-up.
There are four models for the Poco F1 announced during its launch in India. The first model is a 6GB/64GB model priced at INR 20,999 (about RM 1,233) as mentioned earlier while the 6GB/128GB model goes for INR 23,999 (RM 1,409).
There is also the 8GB/256GB model which carries a price tag of INR 28,999 (RM 1,703) sticker price and for the premium Armoured Edition, it can be obtained at INR 29,999 (RM 1,762).
Neither Xiaomi nor Poco have announced the phone’s availability outside of India for the time being but since the phone has been spotted on SIRIM’s database recently, there is a high chance that we might see this phone in Malaysia very soon.
