With Gamescom 2018 currently underway in Cologne, ASUS has finally lifted the veil on on its two TUF Gaming notebooks, the FX505 and the FX705. Despite being two distinct models, both share more similarities than differences.
In fact, the only obvious difference between the two is size, with the FX505 coming with a 15.6-inch form factor while the FX705 has a 17.3-inch body. Other less obvious differences is weight and battery – the smaller FX505 weighs 2.2kg and has a 48Wh battery, while the larger FX705 weighs in at 2.6kg and features a 64Wh battery.
Technically speaking, there are also some cosmetic differences, like the different lids you see above. That said, ASUS didn’t tell us what the differences entail.
These differences aside, both units are really identical. For a start, both machines have a Full HD IPS display with up to 144Hz refresh rate. Inside, both units can come with up to an Intel Core i7-8750H processor, an NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1060 GPU, 32GB of DDR4 RAM, and a 512GB PCIe SSD + 1TB SSHD combo for internal storage.
With the many similarities between these two machines and the previously announced FX504, the newer machines can be considered a slight display upgrade, with the 144Hz refresh rate (and 17.3″ form factor) being the step up over the 120Hz display of the TUF FX504.
As of now, we don’t yet have details on local pricing and availability, but we’ll let you know once ASUS informs us of them.
Note: all pictures shown above are TUF Gaming FX505 as ASUS didn’t showcased the FX705 during the media briefing.
