While early reports suggested that Sony’s next flagship smartphone is expected to adopt a dual camera setup as its main camera, alleged phone case renders of the Xperia XZ3 have surfaced. Suggesting that the phone will only come with a single rear camera setup, and not the dual array that we had hoped for.
The renders were first posted on the German-based mobile phone e-commerce site, TVCMall. The accessory is clearly listed down as a casing for the Xperia XZ3, and looking at the rear of the phone, it becomes abundantly clear that it only has two holes. One of those holes is for the phone’s fingerprint sensor, while the other hole is clearly made for single rear camera sensor.
As it is with all product renders, it’s important to note that nothing is set in stone just yet. Back when the news broke about the Xperia XZ3’s supposed dual camera status, phone case maker Olixar had its own case image renders, with holes that supported two cameras.
If Sony is still adamant on keeping to a single camera array, then it is a possibility that the Xperia XZ3 might be the first phone to sport Sony’s new 48MP IMX586 camera sensor.
In any case, with IFA 2018 just around the corner, we’ll find out then if the Xperia XZ3 will have the same lonely camera sensor, or if it will be adopting the dual camera setup, just like the Xperia XZ2 Premium. So, until the company’s official announcement, we do ask you readers to take this news with a relatively large pinch of salt.
