Lalamove, a delivery and logistics service from Hong Kong has officially announced its arrival in Malaysia today. It boasts, among other things, a 99.5% fulfilment rate.
So what does Lalamove do? In the simplest terms; think of it as Grab, but instead of people, the service is only intended for the delivery of packages. You launch the app, you choose the pickup and drop-off locations, you pick the vehicle that will transport your goods, and you pick any additional services you need (e.g. having the courier make a return trip).
You’re also given the option to pick your route, which can be helpful if you have multiple drop-off points. When you’re done with that, you’ll be paired with a courier who meets the criteria you’ve set and are willing to meet any extra demands.
Other things you can expect to get with the service include getting e-signatures as proof of delivery, real-time package tracking and multiple payment options, which include cash-on-delivery, online payments or even e-wallets. On vehicles, you have a choice of motorbikes, cars, vans, and trucks . That said, the latter two options will only be available to consumers later in the year.
When it comes to things that you can have Lalamove deliver, the variety seems pretty generous too. You can get partner couriers to deliver food, furniture, and even construction materials. If you’re getting furniture and construction materials delivered, you’ll be glad to know that they’d also help with your house moving, with an additional fee of course. The list of extra services vary from region to region, but below is the list available in Hong Kong, Lalamove’s home base.
Fees start as low as from RM5, going up with distance. There will also be a RM2 surcharge for deliveries between 9PM and 12AM, and a RM5 surcharge for deliveries between 12AM and 6PM. The company stated that weight will not be a factor when it comes to cost but you still have to pick the appropriate vehicle for the job since there are still specific weight and size limit to each vehicle options.
As for the payment itself, consumers have the choice of paying in cash, or using the app’s prepaid e-wallet system. Alternatively, there’s a cash-on-delivery (CoD) option if the recipient of the package is the paying customer. If you intend to use the service before 31 August 2018, then the promo code ‘GOODNEWS‘ will get you a RM8 discount for one delivery.
Lalamove’s services are limited to the Klang Valley for now, but the service aims to expand to other areas like Penang and Johor in the near future. To download the app, head on to Apple App Store or Google Play.
