Samsung has just announced that it will start production of 4TB solid state drive using its 1-terabit memory chips. Interestingly, the SSDs will be targeted at consumers rather than enterprises or cloud server companies.
The new 2.5-inch SSDs will offer high read and write speed thanks to the 4-bit quad-level cell memory chips. Specifically, the 4TB SSD apparently able to deliver up to 540 MB/s and 520 MB/s for read and write speed respectively.
While the speed rating is still lower than NVMe SSDs, it should be fast enough to most users. Alongside the 4TB SSD, Samsung is planning to release 2TB and 1TB versions later this year as well.
However, no prices were shared by Samsung as of press time. Naturally, we expect them to be lower than current enterprise-grade SSDs on the market.
