Xiaomi’s Mi 8 Explorer Edition is a phone that has been talked about by many, thanks to the transparent back design and 3D face unlock scanner on the front. Interestingly, a new variant of the phone has appeared on TENAA recently but features a smaller notch.
In case you wondering, yes, the listing showed that this variant still includes the see-through back. For now, it is not known why the notch is smaller but it might be possible that this variant comes without the IR and 3D face scanner sensors.
Other differences in the listing include three RAM options – 4GB, 6GB and 8GB – along with three storage options in 64GB, 128GB and 256GB flavours. Other features that were apparently carried over from the original model include Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 processor, 6.21-inch AMOLED display, and the dual 12MP camera on the back.
No news on when or if this model will be made available, nor if it will be an China-exclusive release. Given the differences, the retail price of the phone could be sitting between the regular Mi 8 and the Mi 8 Explorer Edition which currently cost CNY 2,699 (about RM 1,609) and CNY 3,699 (about RM 2,206) respectively.
