Malaysia’s representative at Imagine Cup World Finals 2018, Team PINE has managed to qualify to the semi-final stage of the event. Earlier, they were also listed as one of the finalists for the Big Data category under the newly established Imagine Cup Awards portion of the competition.
For the semi-final stage, 18 teams were chosen to compete for one of the three spots at the grand final stage of Imagine Cup World Finals 2018. The semi-final presentation followed the same style as per Imagine Cup Awards yesterday with each team were given 3 minutes to pitch their project to the judges before they were subjected to 10 minutes of group Q&A session.
Unfortunately for Team PINE, their project was not chosen for the final stage of the event. Same goes for the Big Data category of the Imagine Cup Awards which won by Drugsafe from India.
During our quick chat with the team after today’s result announcement, an air of disappointment can certainly be felt among Team PINE members which came from Universiti Tun Hussein Onn Malaysia in Batu Pahat, Johor. Nevertheless, they were still happy to be able to gain the experience and opportunity that Imagine Cup have brought to them despite going home empty handed.
Furthermore, this will not be the end of the road for their project as well since the team stated that they will continue to work on it once they returned back to Malaysia. Hence, we might hear about Team PINE and its non-intrusive cloud-powered pineapple scanner again in the near future.
