Epic Games is having a very good year with smash hit Fortnite. The company has reportedly already crossed the $1 billion (RM4 billion) revenue threshold, and the game isn’t even a year old.
Fortnite earned $304 million in microtransactions in May alone, which was a seven percent increase over what it made in April. It should be noted that those two months account for half the total revenue of the game. Showing just how much growth it has experienced in the middle of 2018.
Most of the growth came from the console side of things, both mobile and PC revenue was flat. That said, mobile probably didn’t contribute much considering that it’s only currently available on iOS. Leaving a large portion of the market still untapped.
While there is no way that Epic will be able to sustain this sort of growth indefinitely, the company is likely to ride the revenue train as long as it can. Despite this, it is being extremely generous with its Unreal Engine partners. Having altered the revenue sharing model of the Unreal marketplace in favour of creators.
