Rumour has it that Huawei’s next flagship smartphone, the Mate 20 Pro, might feature a dual-edge curved OLED display. The rumour stems from information that had passed through the South Korean publication, ET News. The rumour claims that the Chinese company BOE will be the primary supplier of flexible OLED panels towards an “upcoming strategic smartphone” launch during the second of half of this year.
This bit of news also runs counter to an earlier report regarding the possibility of the Chinese company using Samsung’s OLED display. It’s a bit of a surprise, especially when you remember that both Samsung and LG have long been the dominant players in the market for OLED displays on smartphones.
BOE is a company that mainly produces LCD displays, and while it may not be as skilled in producing OLED displays as the two Korean giants, the company has been known for producing a small amount of OLED displays for other smartphone companies in China.
If the yet-to-be-launched Mate 20 Pro will indeed come with a curved OLED display, it wouldn’t be Huawei’s first smartphone to sport such a display. That honour goes to the Porsche Design Mate RS that launched alongside the P20 Pro and P20 earlier this year. Again, this bit of news is simple just heresay, so it’s best to take this news with a pinch of salt until Huawei makes an official announcement.
