It looks like we’re getting closer and closer to the release of Nvidia’s next generation GPUs. Folks at LaptopMedia have reported that Lenovo will be refreshing its Y530 notebook with a Nvidia GTX 1160 GPU, which will feature 6GB VRAM. The GTX 1160 GPU is expected to be found on a handful of other gaming notebooks from other brands as well.
For those who may remember, we wrote an article recently regarding the possible launch of Nvidia’s GTX 11 series graphics cards at Gamescom 2018. Like previous launches, Nvidia would most probably be launching desktop graphics cards based on the new architecture first, before releasing mobile versions.
That said, there’s no telling whether or not Nvidia will simply release a rebranded GTX 10 series notebook GPUs and call brand them as GTX 11—though this is unlikely. LaptopMedia claims that the GTX 1160-equipped Lenovo Y530 Notebook will most probably be launched sometime around November to December 2018.
Unfortunately, aside from the alleged name and VRAM size, no other key details were given regarding the GTX 1160 mobile GPU. As mentioned earlier, it seems like aside from Lenovo, ‘big’ laptop manufacturers like MSI, Gigabyte, and Asus will be releasing notebooks equipped with GTX 11 series notebook GPUs sometime this year as well.
