An upcoming Xiaomi phone has been teased on Weibo; presumably the Mi Mix 3. According to the artwork, the phone will feature a pop-up selfie camera, similar in design to the Vivo Nex.
The inclusion of a pop-up selfie camera is believed to be necessary for Xiaomi to achieve its intended screen-to-body ratio for the Mi Mix 3. The leak includes an additional fan render of the device (that was seen before), although the artist is perhaps taking more than a few liberties with the final product.
Xiaom has had to place its selfie camera in somewhat awkward positions to allow an edge-to-edge screen design. Removing the selfie camera from the entire front of the phone may allow Xiaomi to breach the 85% screen-to-body ratio. Something only accomplished by the recently announced OPPO Find X, with an astonishing 86.9% ratio.
In the same teaser, we also can glean the expected launch date of this new Xiaomi smartphone. September 2018 is the month where Xiaomi will launch this new device if the teaser is correct. September was also when the Mi Mix 2 was launched, so it fits the timeline perfectly. More news nuggets are bound to appear as the launch date approaches so stay tuned.
