Huawei has filed a new patent at the World Intellectual Property Ogranization (WIPO) for an odd-looking device. The new smartwatch patent features a holster for wireless earbuds, which also doubles as a charging dock.
The patent drawings posits two different storage solutions. One is where the earbuds sits in the wristband itself, while the other sees the earbuds sits in a holster attached to the wristband at the clasp.
Included in the patent are mechanism to charge the wireless earbuds while stored in the holsters. While the battery in a smartwatch is not big to begin with, it should be sufficient to top up the earbuds for short stretches of time.
In the same filing is also a second bluetooth headphone design, this time in a traditional form factor. The core design of the storage mechanism is the same, just with a different bluetooth headset.
As these drawings are still patent filings, the chances of this becoming commercial products are slim. We do hope Huawei would work on these ideas as it is an interesting design choice for future smartphone accesories.
