It’s been almost a month since AMD announced its 2nd-generation Threadripper CPU at Computex 2018. Now it appears that the CPU maker will be hosting a special event for the processor, and with Ferrari as its hosting partner, no less.
According to multiple sources, both companies will be hosting the event in Maranello which is where the HQ of Ferrari is located. It is likely that the event is in celebration of their collaboration; earlier in April, AMD announced that it would be sponsoring and making its technology portfolio to the Italian car maker’s Scuderia Ferrari F1 team, as part of a multi-year partnership.
Based on the AMD’s announcement at Computex, the 2nd-generation Threadripper CPU is slated to launch in the third quarter of this year. It will be built based on AMD’s new 12nm Zen+ architecture, and the top of the line SKU will house up to a whopping 32-cores and 64-threads.
During the announcement, the CPU’s capability was also shown on stage and is apparently able to beat Intel Core i9-7980XE processor despite running on air cooling. While we still have to wait for the real thing to appear in the market first, it is clear that the HEDT CPU war between these two companies will continue to rage on in 2018.
