A new patent from Samsung has been filed online at the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO), showing an edge display with two independent displays along the curved edge.
The patent states that the three displays are combined into a single unit, but are treated as separate entities. All screens are touch sensitive and can be active independently of one another.
What is more interesting is that the patent does not specifically say the design is only for mobile. The filing also contains drawings for both Windows-based devices as well as a remote for future Smart TV applications. The side displays can be used for controls while the middle display can be used to show extra content as a second screen.
The patent is filed in general terms that Samsung can implement the design onto any number of product lines. We will have to wait and see how the patent will be translated into a real product.
