iOS 12 isn’t set to be available until later this year in fall, but if you’ve been wanting to try it out, you can do so now. Available for download right now, iOS 12’s public beta lets consumers get their hands on the update’s latest features, but there are a couple of caveats.
For one, this is a public beta, so expect there to be software bugs here and there. That’s precisely the reason why you should only really install the pre-release software on your secondary iOS device. But if you do want to download it on your main device, remember to back it up first – you do not want to lose your precious data.
In any case, iOS 12 does bring a whole suite of improvements. These include better performance, an overhauled notification system – notifications are finally grouped in iOS 12 – and of course, there’s the new Memoji, which allows you to customise your own character. This is only available on the iPhone X, naturally.
On top of that, there’s also the new Screen Time app. Not only can it give you a weekly summary of your usage habits, you can even set time limits on specific apps. We imagine this will be a very useful feature for those who want to know (and control) their device usage habits.
The public beta for iOS 12 is now available for download right here – just sign in with your Apple ID and follow the instructions. While iOS 12 does have a lot of new features to play with, just be mindful of software bugs.
