Facebook is aware of the addictive nature of its app. To that end, the company is currently developing an in-app tool that will allow users to monitor the amount of time they spend on it.
Screenshots show that the tool is called “Your Time on Facebook”, and from the looks of it, it specifically shows how many minutes a user spends per day, over a course of seven days. According to Facebook, the reason it is developing tool is because the company wants to find new ways to help ensure that people’s time on Facebook is well-spent.
The tool will allow users to create daily reminders that notify them when they’ve reached a self-imposed time limit on the app. On that note, Facebook did not make clear as to how exactly the tool will measure a user’s time on its app, or if the timer will stop the moment it is minimised into the background.
At the time of writing, Facebook did not specify when the tool will be released. However, it is very likely that the social media company will make it available to the masses pretty soon.
