In-screen fingerprint sensors have been talked about for a very, very long time, and there’s finally a consumer smartphone with the new tech in Malaysia. Not only does the vivo X21 feature a fingerprint sensor underneath its display, it’s also a pretty respectable mid-range smartphone.
Without a doubt the highlight feature of the X21 is its in-screen fingerprint sensor, and based on first impressions of the phone, it seems to work pretty well too. It’s not exactly the first phone with the new tech in Malaysia – that goes to the Porsche Design Huawei Mate RS – but it’s certainly a more affordable option. Aside from that, it is also powered by Qualcomm’s upper mid-range Snapdragon 660 chipset.
Other specifications of the X21 include a 6.28-inch 2280 x 1080 Super AMOLED display – with a notch at the top, of course – 6GB of RAM, 128GB of internal storage (further expandable with a microSD card), a 3,200mAh battery, as well as Funtouch OS 4.0 based on Android 8.1 Oreo.
In the camera department, the X21 sports a 12MP + 5MP dual-camera system with dual-pixel autofocus. The front-facing shooter, on the other hand, is a 12MP camera. The selfie camera is also used for the phone’s face unlock feature.
The vivo X21 is now available for purchase in Malaysia. Retailing at RM2,299, it’s not exactly an affordable mid-range smartphone, but its in-screen fingerprint sensor may appeal to certain consumers.
