It is nothing out of ordinary for AMD to rope in its OEM partners to talk about their product during the company’s media event such as the one that took place yesterday in conjunction with Computex 2018. However, we certainly didn’t expect that Huawei would join the mix as well who have introduced the new 14-version of its MateBook D that is powered by AMD Ryzen mobile APU.
Built with 14-inch Full HD IPS display, the 1.45kg laptop is also equipped with AMD Ryzen 5 2500U processor. As a refresher for those who wonder about its specifications, this particular chip comes with 4 CPU cores and 8 threads as well as runs at a base clock speed of 2GHz and boost clock speed of 3.6GHz.
Being an APU, the chip also comes with its own graphics in the form of Radeon Vega 8 that has a clock speed of 1.1GHz. The specifications sheet in the demo area at the press conference stated that the laptop is also equipped with 8GB DDR4 RAM and 256GB solid state drive.
On stage, Huawei also points out that the 14-inch MateBook D also comes with a 57.4Whr battery and is powered using USB Type-C port. A set of split-frequency quad speakers with Dolby Atmos enhancements complete the main feature list of the laptop.
At the press conference, Huawei didn’t disclose any information regarding the release date and pricing for the new AMD Ryzen-based 14-inch MateBook D though. Hence, its availability in our market remains to be seen.
