Quite a number of phone makers are now paying close attention to DxOMark’s ratings, and Xiaomi spent quite some time focusing on the Xiaomi Mi 8‘s DxOMark score at the phone’s launch. Scoring an overall score of 99, DxOMark is ranking the Mi 8’s camera on the same level as the Samsung Galaxy S9+.
According to DxOMark, one of the most impressive aspects of the Mi 8’s 12MP + 12MP dual-camera is its autofocus performance. The camera’s dual-pixel autofocus system is capable of fast and accurate autofocus – even in low light conditions – and even in video capture, it offers good tracking capabilities.
Aside from that, DxOMark also mentioned that the Mi 8’s camera can shoot accurate exposure with wide dynamic range, as well as good white balance. However, it does have a couple of weaknesses: it can’t quite capture finer details, and there’s also occasional autofocus delay.
Still photography is a strong point for the Mi 8’s camera, but it’s not quite as good when it comes to video recording. There are slight exposure and white balance inaccuracies, and detail preservation isn’t great either. However, DxOMark did note that it’s still a decent phone for video capture with “attractive color rendering and a wide dynamic range.”
Based on DxOMark’s rating, the Xiaomi Mi 8 certainly has a pretty darn good camera system. If you’d like to read DxOMark’s full review of the Mi 8’s camera, you can do so here.
