Acer has quietly added a new AMD powered variant of recently announced Predator Helios 500 gaming notebook. The option to have the Helios 500 transformed into a AMD-powered first appeared on the company’s official site, where it listed the option for an AMD Ryzen and Radeon RX Vega configuration.
Specs-wise, the AMD configuration of the Helios 500 will consist of a 8-cores, 16-threads Ryzen 7 2700 CPU, while the GPU is, surprisingly, a Radeon RX Vega 56. On a sidenote: Acer still hasn’t updated the device’s specs sheet on its page to reflect its new AMD configuration. Therefore, we don’t know if the Vega 56 will feature a lower clockspeed, or even if it is the mobile or desktop version of the card.
To be fair, this wouldn’t be the first time that a notebook manufacturer has offered a machine that is powered solely by AMD components (that honour goes to the ASUS ROG GL702ZC). However, this could very well be the first gaming notebook in the world that is powered by AMD’s Radeon RX Vega 56 GPU.
