The wait for the next generation of Pokemon continues as Nintendo unveiled its lineup for the Nintendo Switch. As expected, Pokemon: Let’s Go Pikachu! and Pokemon: Let’s Go Eevee! are pseudo-remakes of the original Pokemon games; but designed to function with Pokemon Go mechanics.
According to the announcement, Pokemon: Let’s Go will play on the Nintendo Switch like it does on the 3DS. With players controlling a virtual avatar and adventuring across the Kanto region. However, Pokemon now appear wandering around the map; instead of hiding in long grass like they normally do in these sorts of games.
Catching them requires players to actively chase down the Pokemon, after which they will enter a screen that is extremely similar to that of the Pokemon Go mobile game. In this case, it is no longer necessary to battle and weaken a Pokemon before capturing it. With the mechanics simply requiring players to make the throw gesture with the Nintendo Joy-Con.
Also new to the game is the option for a second player to join in using the second Nintendo Joy-Con. Allowing a cooperative experience for the first time in a console Pokemon game.
Pokemon Go integration is also included, with players being allowed to transfer their Generation 1 Pokemon into Pokemon: Let’s Go. That said, there is no option to transfer in the opposite direction. Likely to maintain the integrity of regional Pokemon in the mobile game.
VentureBeat is also reporting that there is no trading in the new games.
Additionally, Nintendo is releasing Pokemon Quest. A title for both the Switch and smartphones. There’s little information about this title, aside from some short footage of the gameplay that shows Minecraft-style graphics and Pokemon that all look like cubes.
