The honor 10 is a very competitively priced flagship smartphone. Retailing at only RM1,599, it offers plenty value for money. You can check out our comprehensive review of the honor 10 here, but right now, we’re gonna talk about something else: here are five cool features you can find in the honor 10’s 16MP + 24MP AI dual-camera system.
AI Scene Recognition
honor has included a number of powerful AI capabilities into the honor 10, and one of them is AI scene recognition. Depending on what the camera is pointed at, the phone can automatically make proper adjustments to make images look more appealing.
Say you’re trying to snap a picture of the most perfect-looking lunch: just point the camera at it, and the honor 10 will do the rest. The phone will automatically recognise that you’re taking a food picture, and it will then boost contrast and saturation accordingly to make the image look even more appetising.
The bottom shot is captured with AI Mode switched on. Needless to say, the feature definitely improves image quality.
And thanks to the Kirin 970 chipset’s dedicated Neural Processing Unit (NPU), the honor 10’s AI scene recognition is fast and seamless.
AI-Powered Portrait Mode
Portrait Mode is available on a plethora of phones nowadays, but what sets the honor 10 apart in this department is its AI integration. The most interesting feature here is 3D Portrait Lighting. In many ways, it is similar to the iPhone’s Portrait Lighting feature, but it offers more customisation.
You can, for one, change the “direction” of the light source to your liking, giving you more control over how your portrait shot looks like. You can also choose from five different lighting effects: Soft, Butterfly, Split, Stage, and Classic. According to honor, the phone’s AI capability can make these look like professional studio lighting effects.
Blur-Free Groupfies
Tired of blurry groupfies? Well, that won’t be a problem with the honor 10. Not only can the phone detect different scenes and apply the most optimal settings, it also has a precise face recognition system to ensure that everyone is focused in a groupfie.
On top of that, the honor 10 can also simulate accurate bokeh effects for groupfies, and this works for both the dual-camera system and the front-facing shooter.
Semantic Image Segmentation
This is a rather cool technology integrated into the honor 10’s camera. Touted as an industry-first, the phone analyses different “layers” of an image, and applies the most optimal settings to each layer. Basically, the phone looks at the context of the image to apply necessary tweaks. Of course, with the help of the dedicated NPU in the honor 10’s Kirin 970 processor, the phone can do this effortlessly too.
AI Zoom & Motion Detection
Say you’re trying to zoom in on a presentation slide to take a picture of it: how often is it a blurry mess? The honor 10’s AI Zoom can ensure this doesn’t happen. Using the phone’s AI algorithm, honor says that the camera can capture clear shots even in high magnification.
Aside from that, there’s also the honor 10’s AI Motion Detection. Using the phone’s motion detection technology, the AI camera can capture fast moving objects – or animals – with great clarity. Say goodbye to blurry shots of your pet cat.
(Bonus) True Monochrome Sensor
The honor 10 can take great looking monochrome shots.
While not strictly an AI feature, the honor 10’s dual-camera system also has a 24MP monochrome sensor. This, in turn, allows the camera to shoot really impressive black and white images. After all, the honor 10 isn’t using any filter to achieve this effect – it’s using the dedicated monochrome sensor.
On top of that, the Monochrome Mode also has several built-in shooting options: Normal, Aperture, and Portrait. We imagine shooting black and white portrait shots with the honor 10 will be quite fun.
The honor 10’s AI dual-camera system is definitely capable, and it’s especially impressive for a RM1,599 flagship smartphone. If you want a high-end device with excellent value for money and great camera system, the honor 10 fits the bill to a T.
