Pornhub is undoubtedly one of the world’s biggest adult video websites has launched its very own VPN called VPNhub. Like all VPNs, VPNhub is designed to allow users around the world to bypass restrictions placed on adult websites. Pornhub states that its new VPN will offer “free and unlimited bandwidth”, but will be ad-supported.
To that end, there’s a “Premium” subscription option that removes the ads. Pornhub says that VPNhub already has 1,000 servers in more than 15 countries, and that the service “will not log user date or browsing activity itself.”
There is a certain level of irony to VPNhub and more specifically, Pornhub’s parent company, Mindgeek. Mindgeek is the owner of several adult video websites besides Pornhub, and its portfolio includes Redtube, YouPorn, and Digital Playground, to name a few. Back in 2012, the latter two sites were hacked and the details of more than 1.1 million users were exposed online.
In 2016, hackers attacked Mindgeek’s Brazzers forum and exposed details of 800,000 members. Then, in 2017, Pornhub was also an unwitting host to a malware advertising attacked that wasn’t discovered for more than a year. Mindgeek is also the creator of its age verification platform called AgeID, a censorship platform that essentially allows countries to crack down on pornography.
VPNhub is globally available, and can be downloaded on to iOS, Android, Windows, and MacOS, although the latter will only be able to download the premium-only option. On that note, the fee for the premium subscription is set at US$12.99 (~RM51) a month, but as mentioned, you get an ad-free experience, faster speeds, and 24/7 technical support.
Unfortunately, the service is banned by the US in Burma, Cuba, Iran, North Korea, Sudan, and Syria. It is also reported that the service has been outright banned in Qatar, Saudi Arabia, the UAE, Egypt, and China. Surprisingly, it’s not yet banned in Malaysia.
