Acer has announced a quartet of new Chromebooks set to be released later this year. That said, there are technically only two different Chromebooks; each with a regular clamshell and a convertible variant.
The Acer Chromebook 13 and Chromebook Spin 13 feature an all aluminium chassis, built to fit a 13.5-inch FHD display. The main difference between the two in this aspect is that the convertible Chromebook Spin 13 ships with a Wacom stylus for pen input; and also includes internal storage for the stylus.
Internally, the two differ by quite a bit. The Chromebook Spin 13 offers an 8th Gen Intel Core i5-8250U processor or Core i3-8130U processor. Either can be paired with up to 16GB LPDDR3 memory and up to 128GB of on–board eMMC storage.
On the other hand the Chromebook 13 has a wider range of processor options, which include include an 8th Generation Intel Core i3-8130U, Intel Pentium 4415U or Intel Celeron 3865U. It also comes with up to 16GB LPDDR3 memory and either 32GB or 64GB of on–board eMMC storage.
Both are equipped with a pair of USB Type-C ports, two USB 3.0 ports, and – most importantly – a microSD card reader.
Following these two are the Chromebook 15 and Chromebook Spin 15. As the naming convention implies, the Chromebook Spin 15 is a convertible laptop that folds into a tablet; while the Chromebook 15 is its more conventional – and affordable – cousin.
Both are 15.6-inch laptops with FHD touch capable displays, although the Chromebook 15 also offers a non-touch display variant. Powering the laptops are a choice from an Intel Pentium N4200 processor, Intel Celeron N3350 processor, or Intel Celeron N3450.
Rounding out the specifications are up to 8GB RAM and up to 64GB eMMC storage. The Chromebook Spin 15 is fitted with a pair of USB Type-C ports; while the Chromebook 15 also adds a pair of USB 3.0 ports and a microSD card reader.
The Acer Chromebook 13 and Chromebook Spin 13 do not have an announced release date or price yet. While the Chromebook 15 and Chromebook Spin 15 are set to debut in North America in July with a starting price of $349 (RM1400) and $449 (RM1800) respectively.
