When it was launched at IFA 2017, the latest iteration of Acer Swift 5 is one of the lightest laptops in the market. Today, the company unveils a new derivation of that particular model but with a bigger display.
Specifically, the new Acer Swift 5 that was unveiled at Next at Acer press event in New York today is equipped with 15.6-inch full HD IPS touch display as compared with the original model which comes with 14-inch display. Despite having a bigger display, the new model still weights less than 1kg.
According to Acer, the lightweight nature of the new Swift 5 was made possible due to the usage of magnesium-lithium for the laptop’s top and bottom cover. At the same time, the company also utilizes magnesium-aluminum allow on the laptop’s palm rest area for added strength.
While Acer didn’t provide the exact list of processors available for the new 15.6-inch Swift 5 although they are likely to be 8th Gen Intel Core processors, the laptop can be obtained with up to 1TB solid state drive and 16GB DDR4 RAM. It also comes standard with a USB 3.1 Type-C Gen 2 port which has 10 Gbit/s transfer speed alongside two USB 3.1 Type-A ports, one HDMI port, an SD card reader, a fingerprint reader, and Intel Wireless-AC 9560 802.11ac wireless Gigabit network adaptor.
An LED backlit keyboard is also a standard on the laptop. Once again, Acer didn’t specify the battery life of the new Swift 5 but did mentioned that the laptop is able to last throughout the workday. Additionally, the company also didn’t provide the actual release timeline and pricing for the laptop which is rather intriguing but nevertheless, we expect it to roll into retail stores within the next one or two months.
