MediaTek has revealed the new Helio P22 SoC. It is the first mid-range chipset to be constructed based on the 12nm process with a set of new features from the likes of enhanced AI capabilities, dual camera support and improved connectivity for future devices.
The Helio P22 chipset includes an octa-core Cortex-A53 CPU clocked up to 2GHz. The chipset will have imaging support for dual rear cameras with up to 13MP + 8MP resolutions, 30fps video recording and also a dedicated depth engine for real-time low power bokeh previews.
Aside from that, the Helio P22 chipset can handle displays with a resolution of up to 1,600 x 720, for a maximum aspect ratio of 20:9. The chipset can also handle dual SIM cards with connectivity covered with LTE, 802.11ac Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 5.0, GPS, and GLONASS.
As with any other gadget these days, MediaTek has put in some fancy AI features for the new chipset. On the Helio P22, MediaTek promises AI-accelerated experiences that support AI frameworks such as TensorFlow, TF Lite, Caffe and Caffe2 and also an AI-accelerated camera experience.
Production on the Helio P22 has started so expect the first batch of devices sporting the new chipset to arrive during the third quarter of this year.
