The OnePlus 6 is finally unveiled, and it’s pretty much what we expected. It has a notched display, it’s powered by Qualcomm’s latest Snapdragon 845 chipset, and it is also water-resistant…to an extent. Of course, it also carries a rather competitive price tag for a flagship smartphone.
Right off the bat, the OnePlus 6’s most noticeable change is the glass and metal construction; no more aluminium unibody chassis here. Thanks to this new material choice, the phone should feel a lot more premium – it looks pretty sleek too. On top of that, the OnePlus 6 is also water-resistant, but OnePlus did not give the phone any specific IP rating.
Aside from that, the OnePlus 6 also has a 6.28-inch Full HD+ 19:9 Optic AMOLED display with a notch at the top. Thankfully, the bottom bezel looks pretty minimal too, which somewhat justifies the notch. Much like the OnePlus 5T, the fingerprint sensor has been moved to the back too.
When it comes to photography, the OnePlus 6 features a dual-camera system made up of 16MP + 20MP sensors with f/1.7 apertures. The primary 16MP shooter comes with both optical and electronic image stabilisation, and the camera can also do 4K video recording at 60fps. There is also slow motion video capture, which is limited to 480fps at 720p, and 240fps at 1080p.
Other specifications of the OnePlus 6 include 6GB or 8GB of RAM, three choices of fast UFS 2.1 storage (64GB, 128GB, or 256GB), a 3,300mAh battery with support for fast charging, as well as OxygenOS based on Android Oreo out of the box. Naturally, the phone’s 16MP front-facing camera can also be used for face unlock.
As is usually the case with OnePlus phones, the OnePlus 6 is priced rather competitively. The base model with 64GB of storage and 6GB of RAM retails at $529 (about RM2,100), while the 128GB and 256GB variants with 8GB of RAM go for $579 (approximately RM2,295) and $629 (around RM2,495) respectively.
At the time of writing, it still remains to be seen if the OnePlus 6 will be officially launched in Malaysia. Globally, however, the Mirror Black and Midnight Black colours will be available on 22 May, while the limited edition Silk White edition goes on sale 5 June.
