Rumour has it that Nvidia is planning to supercharge its GTX 1060 graphics card soon. Expreview have stated that the green company will bestow the GTX 1060 with the GP104 GPU. Should this rumour be true, it means that Nvidia will have released five different variants of the graphics card. Nvidia’s GTX 1060 graphics card is one of the company’s best selling mid-range graphics card to date.
For those who may not be aware, the Nvidia Pascal GP104 GPU is currently being used on the high-end GTX 1070, GTX 1070 Ti, and GTX 1080 graphics cards. Expreview mentioned that Nvidia is currently developing ways to equip the GTX 1060 with the GP104-300 GPU (used in the GTX 1070). Of course, the new GPU – allegedly named GP104-150 – will not have the same power and efficiency output as the GP104-300 chip.
Unfortunately, sources say that the new and improved GTX 1060 graphics card may only be available in China. While disappointing, this makes some sense because Nvidia is rumoured to be clearing its Pascal GPU stock to make way for new GPUs, which hopefully be unveiled this year. Regardless, do take this rumour with a grain of salt, at least until Nvidia makes an official announcement.
