A source is claiming that Asus is preparing to launch a gaming smartphone under the ROG brand at Computex this year. If true, this would still only be the fourth such device to be launched; following releases from Razer, Xiaomi and Nubia.
Just like Razer, Asus’ Republic of Gamers is an established name among gamers. Therefore, it makes sense for the company to introduce a gaming phones under the brand instead of having to introduce a new name like Xiaomi’s Black Shark or Nubia’s Red Magic.
Expect the new phone to come with a similar set of specs as the other gaming smartphones currently on the market. Namely, the QualcommSnapdragon 845 chipset, either 8GB or 16GB of RAM and also a high-refresh rate display.
On the other hand, there is only one source for this news, and it’s not particularly well known or reputable. Which is why we’re not entirely sure if there’s any truth to the rumour. It’s not impossible that Asus is working on a gaming phone, but one that launches at Computex feels a bit too soon for the company.
