This particular device catches out attention after it was mentioned by Microsoft’s CEO Satya Nadella during his keynote at Build 2018 developers conference last night. As it turns out, the device which is called Konjac (Moyu) AI Translator has just been released in China last week through Xiaomi’s e-commerce platform, Youpin.
It goes without saying that one of the biggest reason it was referenced by Satya at Build is due to the fact that it is running on Microsoft’s technology. According to the official website, the AI Translator features speech, natural language, and machine translation modules powered by Microsoft alongside self-learning capability that helps the device improve its translation results over time.
The AI Translator is apparently able to support 14 different languages including Chinese, English, Japanese, Korean, French, German, Spanish, Russian, Portuguese, Italian, Dutch, Danish, Finnish, and Swedish. Aside from providing translations, the device can be used for other purposes such as play music, audiobook playback, news reader, calculator, glossary check, and many more.
With a design that seems to be inspired by certain Apple products complete with aluminum chassis, the lightweight translator also contains a built-in speaker and far-field microphone with intelligent noise reduction capability. Not to forget, it also comes with a 900mAh battery which provides the device with a battery life of 8 hours and 7 days standby time.
Priced at only CNY 249 (about RM 155), the Konjac AI Translator is yet another device that was fueled by what seems to be a rather productive collaboration between Xiaomi and Microsoft. It is not yet known whether Xiaomi will release the device in other market but we pretty sure there are substantial market right here in Malaysia especially as air travel is becoming more accessible.
