Intel recently launched its new Optane SSD 905D series. These new storage devices come about two months after the company launched the Optane SSD 800P series, but with better specifications and more sensible storage capacities.
The Optane SSD 905D comes in two variations; 480GB and 960GB. The Optane SSD 905D 480GB is only available in a 2.5″ form factor, while the 960GB model is only available in the form of a Half Height Half Length (HHHL) PCIe module (with its own cooler shroud too).
Both models use Intel’s 3D X-Point memory format and the PCIe NVMe 3.0 x4 interface. Sustained read and write speeds for both models are rated at 2,600MB/s and 2,200MB/s, respectively. Random read and write speeds are rated at 575K IOPS and 550K IOPS, while the MTBF for both models is set to 1.6 million hours. Last but not least, the new SSDs come with a five year warranty.
As you’d expect, these SSDs do not come cheap. Pricing for the Intel Optane SSD 905D 480GB is set at US$599 (~RM2,356), while the 960GB model will retail at a hefty US$1,299 (~RM5,110). At that price, Intel is clearly aiming these SSDs towards professionals, content creators, and enthusiasts.
At the time of writing, it was not made clear when these SSDs will be making its way into Malaysia, or if the company even plans to make them available.
