Opera is shutting down its mobile VPN app on both Android and iOS. This is after SurfEasy parted ways with the company, likely taking the entire VPN team with it. Despite the turn of events, Opera VPN users are not being left in a lurch.
Opera Gold users will be given the option to move over to SurfEasy Ultra, and will receive a year-long subscription. Porting over can be done through the Opera VPN app, making it easier for those making the transition.
SurfEasy was originally a privacy based Kickstarter, selling a USB encryption tool for web browsing. It was quickly bought by Opera in 2015, with the Opera VPN subsequently being released in 2016. No reason has been provided why the two companies have split.
Opera VPN stopped working on 30 April, and Gold users should be making the transition as soon as possible.
