WhatsApp will soon be expanding its video call feature to allow for multiple users in the same call. The feature was announced at the Facebook F8 developer conference, along with the coming introduction of stickers.
There are few details about the upcoming video call feature. Seeing that the company doesn’t have much to share at the moment. Including a timeline for when it will be rolled out.
What is known is that it will allow up for four callers and work on mobile. Not surprising considering that the desktop client doesn’t allow for video or audio calls at the moment.
Stickers are also coming, but likewise have no details announced.
WhatsApp development has been surprisingly slow, considering that the company is owned by Facebook. Video calls were only added two years ago, and lagged behind almost every other instant messaging app; including Facebook Messenger.
Still better late than never, and it’s a decent start that WhatsApp is actually announcing upcoming features now. Instead of having them accidentally discovered when people are given access to the beta test.
