Acer has announced the next iteration of its unusual Chrome OS desktop Chromebox. The new Chromebox CXI3 has more rounded look compared to the more boxy look of previous Acer Chromebox.
As a recap, the Chromebox is a desktop style machine that runs Chrome OS. Essentially catering to those who want the functions of a Chromebook without the mobility associated with it.
The new Acer Chromebox comes with four processor options: an Intel Celeron 3865U, Core i3-7130U, Core i5-8250U, or Core i7-8550U. The amount of RAM and memory varies according to the chosen processor variant. The base Celeron model comes with 4GB of RAM and 32GB of SSD. While both the Core i3 and Core i5 model comes with 8GB of RAM and 64GB of storage. The high-end Core i7 model will have 16GB of RAM coupled with 64GB SSD.
Acer has equipped the Chromebox CXI3 with a number of connectivity ports. For data transfer, there are three USB 3.0 ports, two USB 2.0 ports and one USB-C port. Other than that, there is an HDMI port, LAN port and a headphone/microphone jack on the device.
The new Acer Chromebox CXI3 pre-order open now in the US with the base model starts at around $308 or RM1200. The higher-end variant goes for $777 or RM3021. No word yet on whether Acer will be bringing the new device to Malaysia, but we don’t expect this to actually turn up on our shores.
