Most of us are content with just snapping photos and record videos with our smartphones. However, there are still limitations of what a mobile device can offer, in terms of clarity, precision, and high definition quality. On the other hand, upgrading from smartphone photography to an interchangeable lens camera can be a daunting task, and there may be a steep learning curve that prevents people from making the leap.
Canon seeks to fill in the gap with the latest addition to its EOS M-series mirrorless camera offerings. The Canon EOS M50 was created specifically to capture these fleeting once-in- a-lifetime events, and designed it to be compact yet powerful enough to ensure the upgrade from your smartphone is absolutely worthwhile.
Effortless Companion
Canon’s wide range of mirrorless cameras has made it accessible for beginner photographers to develop a love for the craft. It is easy to be overwhelmed by the flurry of buttons, dials, and settings options when you are just starting out. The Canon EOS M50’s intuitive controls make it easy to navigate – or leave it to the camera to do the heavy lifting for you.
Thanks to Canon’s latest DIGIC 8 processor, improved Dual Pixel CMOS AF, and 24.1MP APS-C CMOS sensor, images produced by the EOS M50 are crisp and sharp. Low-light photography – a bane for many – is also further improved, allowing the camera to be versatile in any situation.

On top of that, the Canon EOS M50 is light and compact, weighing just 390g, allowing users to tote it around with ease and be ready to snap away. That said, the mirrorless camera is anything but lightweight in capabilities. Gone are the days where excellent photo and video quality can only be achieved by clunky digital SLRs.
If you are a fan of selfies and ‘wefies’, the EOS M50 has you covered. The camera’s vari-angle LCD screen does a great job in providing you a variety of angles to choose from, whether it is during photo- or video-taking. The camera is also light enough for you to use it as a vlogging camera – your arms will thank you for it. Another feature that makes the EOS M50 a step above the rest is its 4K video recording capabilities – the first EOS M-series camera to be able to do so.
Moreover, once you’ve captured your adventures in 4K, you can replay and frame grab a specific scene from the video. 4K Frame Grab is a feature that was previously only reserved for higher-end cameras like the EOS-1D X Mark II and EOS 5D Mark IV.
Seamless Connectivity
The Canon EOS M50 comes with a wide variety of wireless connectivity features, including Wi-Fi, NFC, and Bluetooth. Just simply connect the camera via Canon’s Camera Connect app, and you can seamlessly transfer files from the EOS M50 to your smartphone – ready to be posted on your social media platforms.
Its wireless capabilities also allow users to remotely control the camera – a feature useful for shots that require coordination. There is no need for that one person to press the shutter button, run back to their spot in the photo, and hope that the timer doesn’t go off mid-way.
For easy back-up, the EOS M50 can automatically send what you’ve captured to your personal computer or other compatible devices. This can be done through the Image Transfer Utility 2 app. After the initial setup, you will not have to worry about manually transferring your memories from the camera – allowing you to capture more once it’s done.
The Everyday Camera
Connecting and creating relationships with one another has never been easier, all thanks to the wide breadth of technologies available. The sharing of photos and videos can be done in real-time, even reaching family and friends who are far away from you.
With a huge breadth of features packed into a small and compact mirrorless camera, the Canon EOS M50 is the perfect imaging companion for your everyday moments.
