The Huawei P20 Pro is an impressive flagship smartphone, and its camera performance is one of the best we’ve seen. However, it appears there may be another reason (besides Huawei’s AI image stabilisation) behind this. In iFixit’s teardown of the phone, the site notice that the P20 Pro’s Leica triple-camera system does in fact have optical image stabilisation – on all three lens.
This is in contrast with what Huawei mentioned, which confirmed that only the 8MP telephoto lens comes with OIS. In iFixit’s teardown of the camera module, however, it shows that all three lens actually come with OIS hardware.

It’s odd of Huawei to not capitalise on this particular feature. After all, the fact that all three lenses are optically stabilised sounds like a really good selling point. It’s possible that Huawei wants to focus on its AIS technology instead, which is still a plenty impressive feature.
Aside from the camera, iFixit also wrote that many of the P20 Pro’s components are modular, and it’s possible to replace the battery – albeit with some difficulty. However, the site said that replacing the screen won’t be an easy process, which requires going through several layers of adhesive and some disassembly.
In total, iFixit gave the Huawei P20 Pro a repairability score of 4 out of 10. If you’d like to learn more about the device, check out our extensive review.
